Supreme Court Annuls Promotions in Meteorology Department

The Supreme Constitutional Court has annulled promotions within the Meteorology Department, accepting the appeal of Marios Theofilou. The decision concerns the promotion of three officials to the position of Meteorological Officer A΄, which had been challenged.
The court ruled that the Director's recommendation contained irrelevant elements that negatively affected the professional image of M. Theofilou and the judgment of the Public Service Commission (ΕΔΥ). Specifically, it mentioned the fact that Theofilou was on secondment, which had been approved by the ΕΔΥ itself for official purposes. It also referred to Theofilou's refusal to transfer, despite the needs of the Department, without taking into account the official and family reasons he had put forward.
The Supreme Court emphasized that Theofilou's secondment should not have worked against him, as it was a choice of the administration. There was also evidence that the refusal to move was not simply unwillingness, but was dictated by official reasons.
The Supreme Court's decision demonstrates that the ΕΔΥ was influenced by a flawed recommendation, affecting the evaluation of candidates.
