Confusion Over Fire Coordinator in Cyprus: Conflicting Statements

Tension arose in the joint session of the Committees on Agriculture, Environment, and Interior regarding the role of the fire coordinator, due to the absence of Andreas Grigoriou. Reports were conflicting.
The Minister of Agriculture, Maria Panagiotou, stated that Mr. Grigoriou had expressed interest in traveling to Australia for events. "The operational role was never exercised, because Mr. Grigoriou, by nature of his position, cannot replace the chief fire officer or the director of the Department of Forests," the Minister stated.
Mr. Grigoriou maintained that his absence did not affect the response to the fires. "I do not have and cannot have official duties, regardless of the decision of the Council of Ministers," he said.
The Chief Fire Officer, Nikos Logginos, stated that he assumed responsibility for coordination during the fires, but was not the official coordinator. "In no way could I violate the decision of the Council of Ministers and assume the duties of coordinator," he said.
The statements provoked reactions from the Members of Parliament, who spoke of criminal responsibilities and misinformation of the Parliament.
Mr. Grigoriou rejected claims that he lied before Parliament.
Aristos Damianou questioned the relationship between operational plans and decisions of the Council of Ministers.
