Parliament approved amendments to the National Guard law, clarifying the mandatory retirement age limit for the Chief and Deputy Chief of the GEF, as well as the rank officers must hold to be appointed to these positions.

The amendments abolish the provision regulating mandatory retirement upon the expiration of their appointment. Now, all matters concerning the Chief and Deputy Chief are uniformly regulated in the National Guard law.

Specifically, the mandatory retirement age limit remains at 62 years, according to regulations for officers with the rank of Lieutenant General. If the term expires earlier, retirement is mandatory.

For the appointment of an Army officer as Deputy Chief of the National Guard, the rank of Major General or Lieutenant General is required. If a Major General is appointed, they are promoted to Lieutenant General.

Additionally, the payment of the equivalent of any vacation leave accrued is provided for upon the expiration of their appointment.
