Alma Questions Legality of Panayiotou's Appointment Suspension
Share on:

Alma is challenging the legality of the suspension of Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou's appointment in education. In a statement, Alma notes that the Educational Service Committee (EEY) granted a one-year suspension of appointment to Ms. Panayiotou, citing the 'public interest'.

Alma argues that the law allows suspension only for health reasons, pregnancy, or postgraduate studies, and not for the 'public interest'. It points out that the EEY website states that non-acceptance of an appointment entails deletion from the list of appointees, questioning why different treatment is being applied to the Minister.

Alma emphasizes the need for transparency and equal treatment, highlighting that the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus stipulates that 'All are equal before the law'.

The statement concludes that Alma will resist practices that undermine legality and equality, demanding the application of rules for all.
