Sick Leave Recognized for Pregnant Contract Teachers in Cyprus

The Minister of Education, Athena Michaelidou, announced that the service of female teachers who are contract employees or substitutes will be recognized in case of illness during their pregnancy.

The decision, which is being forwarded to the Parliament, aims to correct a distortion and respect women's rights and equality, as emphasized by the Minister of Education.

Regarding the meeting with OELMEK, Ms. Michaelidou stated that the Ministry submitted its positions, as well as ideas and suggestions to the teachers, however, the educational organizations maintain their initial views.

Nevertheless, she expressed hope that there will be a discussion in Parliament on the new system for evaluating teachers, so that the desired change can be achieved.
