Divergences are observed in the reactions in the occupied territories regarding references to occupation and division during the Opening Ceremony of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Tufan Erhürman appears to adopt a milder stance compared to Turkey, focusing on the European aspect of the issue.

In contrast, the so-called "prime minister" of the pseudo-state, Ünal Üstel, chose a harsher line, accusing the Greek Cypriot side of "occupation" of the island since 1963. Other members of Erdoğan's "court" in the occupied territories, such as Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu and Ziya Öztürkler, also expressed strong protests.

These reactions come a few weeks before the return of María Ángela Holguín to the island to restart negotiations.
