Cyprus Talks: Preparations for the September Trilateral Meeting

Discussions on low-politics issues will take place ahead of the September trilateral meeting in New York, where Nikos Christodoulides and Ersin Tatar will meet with Antonio Guterres. The Secretary-General expects progress on the six Confidence Building Measures.
The negotiators and Technical Committees will be involved, and the Personal Envoy is likely to visit Cyprus again. Discussions will focus on opening the 4+1 crossing points and the photovoltaic park in the buffer zone.
The Greek Cypriot side insists on reciprocity for the crossing points, while the Turkish Cypriot side rejects the proposals. A similar disagreement exists for the photovoltaic park, due to the request for connection with the occupied territories.
Regarding the four new elements, standard procedures are expected for the establishment of an advisory body, the exchange of antiquities, and measures for air quality.
Discussions on the substance of the Cyprus issue will freeze until the September trilateral meeting.
