Reactions have been sparked in Nicosia following the publication of a photograph from the meeting between Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman and UN Deputy Secretary-General Rosemary Di Carlo, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. The photograph shows the flag of the pseudo-state next to that of the United Nations.

According to the Turkish Cypriot side, the meeting discussed the progress of Confidence Building Measures and the situation in Cyprus, following the recent meeting between Nikos Christodoulides and Tufan Erhurman on April 6.

The Di Carlo-Erhurman meeting is part of the UN's efforts to monitor developments and prevent further escalation in the dead zone, especially in the Pyla area. Jean-Pierre Lacroix is expected to visit Cyprus to discuss developments and the role of UNFICYP.

The meeting in Antalya was the first recorded contact between Erhurman and Rosemary Di Carlo since he took over the leadership of the Turkish Cypriot side. According to the Turkish Cypriot side, Erhurman was accompanied by Mehmet Dana, İpek Boran, and Aslı Erkmen.

Nicosia is concerned about the efforts of Ankara and the Turkish Cypriot side to use such forums for political upgrading.
