Reactions to Michaloliakos' Release on Parole

Strong reactions have been sparked by the release on parole of Golden Dawn leader, Nikos Michaloliakos, with restrictive conditions due to health issues. Lawyers for the family of Pavlos Fyssas and the Egyptian fishermen have expressed their opposition to the decision.
Lawyers for the Fyssas family called the release "scandalous," emphasizing that it coincides with the anniversary of Pavlos Fyssas' murder and sends a message of favorable treatment of far-right crimes. They also called on the highest judicial bodies to rise to the occasion.
The lawyers for the Egyptian fishermen expressed surprise at the decision, noting the privileged treatment of N.M. and stressing that his release is a provocation for the anti-fascist movement. They noted that the only way to overturn the decision is for the prosecutor to file an appeal.
The release of Nikos Michaloliakos was decided by the Lamia Misdemeanor Court Council, while prosecutorial appeals regarding the severity of the sentences are pending.
