Reactions to Kazamias' Remarks at Anti-Occupation Event

Political reactions have been sparked by Andreas Kazamias' speech at an anti-occupation event organized by the Municipality of Famagusta. Mr. Kazamias' remarks, a former Municipal Councilor, were described as biased against the current government and those who have led the Republic of Cyprus since 1960.
Mr. Kazamias stated: "We don't want to go to New York to talk about air and plastics. We want you to take us home... and until we 'kouliantirizoume' such minds, a mutually acceptable solution will not be found." He also criticized the handling of the fire in mountainous Limassol.
The Director of the Press Office of the President of the Republic expressed the government's annoyance, emphasizing that anti-occupation events should promote unity. "Anti-occupation events are events for the unity of the people. And the President of the Republic treats them that way," said Viktoras Papadopoulos.
The Mayor of Famagusta, Simos Ioannou, stated that Kazamias' remarks are his personal views and that the Municipality is in cooperation with President Nikos Christodoulides. DIKO and ELAM accused Mr. Kazamias of whitewashing the Turkish invader.
