Reactions in Athens were triggered by the statement of the Cypriot Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, who described the GSI electricity interconnection project as non-viable. Kostis Hatzidakis, the Greek Deputy Prime Minister, emphasized that the project is integrated into the European energy plan and mainly benefits Cyprus by lifting its energy isolation.

Pavlos Marinakis, the Greek government spokesperson, stated that Athens seeks the completion of the project, but Greek taxpayers will not bear the entire fiscal cost. The Cypriot government is called upon to clarify its position.
