Antigoni Papadopoulou: Why DIKO Collapsed

The Vice President of DIPA, Antigoni Papadopoulou, in an interview, refers to contacts for a possible collaboration between DIKO, DIPA, and EDEK, emphasizing that "joint ballots are not built overnight."
She stresses the need for broader cooperation among the political forces of the democratic spectrum, as proposed by the President of DIPA, Marios Karoyian.
Ms. Papadopoulou expressed grievances about her expulsion from DIKO, stating that she was given no explanation. She spoke of behind-the-scenes dealings and the 2018 presidential elections.
She stated that she will not be a parliamentary candidate again but remains politically active. She welcomes the initiative for a national dialogue in the areas of the Cyprus problem, the economy, health, education, and social policy.
Referring to the parties of the Center, she noted that there is no prospect of unification, but she does not rule out future collaborations. She emphasized that the majority of Cypriots ideologically place themselves in the Center, which is a political asset.
Antigoni Papadopoulou referred to the crisis facing political parties, the disappointment of the public, and the increase in populism. She stressed the need to regain credibility.
Regarding her expulsion from DIKO, Ms. Papadopoulou stated that it was sudden and unsubstantiated, the result of unholy internal party machinations.
