Cyprus Supreme Court: Law on Traffic Light Timers Unconstitutional

The Supreme Constitutional Court of Cyprus ruled the law on installing timers on traffic lights as unconstitutional. According to the decision on July 21, 2025, the *«Amendment Law of 2025 on the Use of Photo-Signaling Devices»* violates Article 80.2 of the Constitution.
The ruling states that the law, proposed by members of parliament, requires additional state expenses for the installation of timers (equipment, wiring, software), which constitutes a constitutional violation. Therefore, the law cannot come into effect.
