Informal Council of Education Ministers in Nicosia

A two-day Informal Council of Education Ministers begins in Nicosia, at the 'Filoxenia' Conference Center, within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.

The Council's work begins today, Thursday, with the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athina Michaelidou, chairing the meeting. The strategic priorities of education and training in Europe will be discussed.

The meeting will be attended by the Director-General of the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sports and Culture of the European Commission, Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, while the keynote speaker will be Professor Michalinos Zembylas, from the Open University of Cyprus.

On Friday, the discussion will focus on the contribution of European cooperation to education. There will be an intervention by the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Roxana Mînzatu.

Ms. Michaelidou will hold a press conference on Friday regarding the informal Meeting.
