Damianou: Allegations of Government-Agent Entanglement and Surveillance
Share on:

AKEL MP Aristos Damianou alleged at a press conference a "long-term collaboration" between the Anastasiades-DISY government and former Israeli agents convicted in Greece for surveillance cases.

Damianou claimed that this collaboration was outside the bounds of legality and culminated in the decision of the Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General to grant a stay of criminal proceedings to the former agent through a plea bargain.

According to Damianou, the Police testified under oath that a VAN-type vehicle with foreign registration numbers, equipped with surveillance capabilities, belonged to WS WISPEAR SYSTEMS LTD, directed by Tal Jonathan Dilian. He also referred to a permit for the installation of antennas at Larnaca airport and illegal access to devices.

DISY allegedly purchased services from an affiliated company, while the Ministry of Commerce confirmed communication regarding the sale of equipment to the Dutch government. Damianou also mentioned invoices to the Police for the purchase and installation of security systems.

Damianou spoke of the "tolerance and cooperation" of the Cypriot authorities in relation to companies producing and exporting surveillance equipment.
