The legal community expresses its strong disapproval of the targeting of the legal profession by the president of the Judges and Prosecutors Union (EnDE). The Plenary of the presidents of the Bar Associations of Greece accuses the president of EnDE, Christoforos Sevastidis, of attempting to interfere in the jurisdictional disciplinary function of the Bar Associations, violating their autonomy and independence.

The Plenary points out that the behavior of the president of EnDE "unjustifiably undermines the relations between officials and co-officials of Justice and creates dangerous conditions for the operation and administration of Justice."

Decisions of the Plenary:

  • Bar Associations should not participate in committees or events where representatives of EnDE participate, until the statements of the president are withdrawn.
  • A call to the Judicial Associations to comment on the statements of the president of EnDE.
  • Proposal for a two-hour abstention of the members of the Bar Associations on November 25, 2025, as a sign of protest.
  • Abstention from the first session of the 4th Department of the Athens Court of Appeal, in which the president of EnDE participates.

The Coordinating Committee condemns the systematic targeting of the legal profession and the attempt to interfere in the disciplinary function of the Bar Associations. It is noted that the president of EnDE is accustomed to sending disciplinary reports against lawyers and making suggestions in a manner that is not in line with the style of a judicial officer.

The Plenary emphasizes that the criticism of the legal profession regarding the operation of Justice is a right and obligation and falls within the core of free expression.
