The Plenary of Presidents of Bar Associations denounces unethical and abusive practices by debt management companies against debtors. In a letter to the competent ministries, they request a legislative initiative to stop these behaviors.

In a statement, the Plenary points out that these practices undermine the rights of vulnerable borrowers and endanger their property. The complaints concern enforcement actions against debtors included in Law 3896/2010, regulated or paid-off loans, non-responses to requests, limited validity of powers of attorney, and derogatory treatment of lawyers and debtors.

The Plenary decided to send letters to the Bank of Greece and the competent Ministries, requesting the exercise of supervisory powers and the establishment of strict sanctions. A press conference is also planned to highlight the problem. If the practices continue, the Bar Associations will be proposed to target abstention from issuing payment orders.
