The president of DIKO, Nikolas Papadopoulos, requested the convocation of the Leaders' Council in a letter to President Nikos Christodoulides. The subject is the discussion of support measures for livestock farming and the tourism industry.

In his letter, Mr. Papadopoulos states that the Republic of Cyprus is facing two crises: the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease and the impact of the war in the Middle East on the economy.

DIKO requests that ways to support livestock farmers be discussed, especially regarding compensation for animals slaughtered in accordance with EU protocols. It is also proposed to examine measures to support the tourism and hotel industry, should the effects of the war in the Middle East continue.

DHIPA proposed immediate coordination and transparent political management regarding the progress of the disease and the measures taken.
