Morphou Mayor Expresses Concern Over Nicosia-Troodos Road Construction

The Mayor of Morphou, Viktoras Chatziavraam, has expressed his strong opposition to the government's decision to construct the Nicosia-Troodos road via the southern route, abandoning the original northern route. According to his statement, the northern route had already begun in 1973.
Mr. Chatziavraam considers this choice to be "politically and nationally slippery," arguing that it sends a message of accepting the status quo of the occupation and abandoning Morphou. Furthermore, he expressed concern that the new route marginalizes the border communities of Astromeritis, Akaki, and Peristerona.
The Mayor of Morphou called on the government to reconsider its decision and return to the original plan, emphasizing that he will not remain silent in the face of this development and will defend the right of return.
