Doukas - Bakoyannis Clash Over Double Redevelopment Project

A heated debate took place between the Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, and his predecessor, Kostas Bakoyannis, regarding the progress of the Double Redevelopment project in the Elaionas area, during the municipal council meeting.
Kostas Bakoyannis, head of the "Athens Up High" faction, expressed concerns about delays in the accompanying projects, arguing that there is a risk of derailing the schedule. Specifically, he referred to delays in road construction and stormwater and sewage networks, as well as the landscaping and public spaces.
In response, Haris Doukas defended the progress of the project, stressing that it is proceeding as normal and accused Mr. Bakoyannis of catastrophizing. He also mentioned that the Central Council of Architecture (KESA) unanimously approved the plans for the new facilities of Amateur Panathinaikos in Votanikos.
Mr. Doukas added that the municipal authority proceeded with expropriations of approximately 80 acres, in order to unblock the projects. Mr. Bakoyannis had referred to a possible loss of Recovery Fund resources due to the delays.
