The Church of Cyprus is preparing for the election of a new Metropolitan of Paphos, following the removal of Tychikos. The Holy Synod is expected to determine the procedure soon, with elections estimated in early January.

Theologian Theodoros Kyriakou, speaking to RIK, emphasized the importance of compiling a regular ballot with candidate names to avoid tensions.

Potential contenders mentioned are Bishops Christoforos of Karpasia, Nikolaos of Amathus, and possibly Grigorios of Mesaoria. The candidacy of Archimandrite Ioannis Ioannou is also possible. Mr. Kyriakou did not rule out the possibility of other surprises.
