Teachers request meeting with President for permanent positions

Educational organizations OELMEK, OLTEK, and POED are requesting an immediate meeting with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, to discuss the implementation of the agreement on permanent positions. The decision was made after an emergency meeting of the organizations on Monday.
The organizations will re-evaluate the situation next Friday and do not rule out taking measures, including strike action. Myria Vasiliou, President of POED, stated that failure to implement the agreement is a red line.
Dimitris Taliadoros, President of OELMEK, mentioned that the Ministry of Education will not submit a supplementary budget for additional permanent appointments in 2025, breaching the agreement. Panagiotis Lysandrou, President of OLTEK, emphasized the teachers' work-related stress and the impact on public education.
Charis Charalambous, General Secretary of POED, clarified that they are not requesting additional positions, but the regularization of the already serving temporary teachers.
