EKYSI: "Only 10,000 Low-Income Pensioners Will Receive Easter Bonus"

EKYSI (Cyprus Pensioners' Union) has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Government's decision regarding the Easter bonus, arguing that it excludes a large number of low-income pensioners.
In a press release, EKYSI stated that only 10,000 low-income pensioners will receive the bonus, while there are over 100,000 pensioners with pensions below the poverty line.
EKYSI points out that despite interventions and appeals to the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare and the President of the Republic, the Government has not reinstated the criteria that were in force before the economic crisis.
According to EKYSI, the bonus remains at €250, with income limits of €7,000 for a single household and €12,000 for a couple, while the poverty line is €10,324 and €15,486 respectively, leaving many pensioners out.
EKYSI demands the reinstatement of income criteria and the amount of the bonus to pre-crisis levels (€13,390 / €20,085), as well as the restoration of the Mother's Allowance and the implementation of compensatory measures.
