Greece - Cyprus: Deepening Cooperation in Education

The Minister of Education, Sofia Zacharaki, emphasized the strategic importance of deepening relations between Greece and Cyprus in the field of education. Emphasis was placed on updating the 2023-2027 cooperation program, which complements the 1993 memorandum.
In this context, new academic synergies are being promoted, and a joint conference will be held in Athens in 2026. The cooperation includes the exchange of educational material, joint approaches to school community issues, and the strengthening of education for the environment and sustainable development.
Furthermore, the common will to upgrade the Greek language and the history of Cyprus, as well as cooperation on teacher evaluation issues, is confirmed. Cooperation on the prevention of school violence and delinquency is also important.
Sofia Zacharaki also referred to the strengthening of cooperation within the framework of Erasmus+ and the establishment of a branch of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Cyprus.
Finally, she emphasized the importance of national dialogue on education, from kindergarten to high school.
