Intragovernmental Dispute Between EAC and Cyta Over Green Energy
Share on:

Tension has arisen between the EAC (Electricity Authority of Cyprus) and Cyta (Cyprus Telecommunications Authority), two semi-governmental organizations, due to a bill being discussed in Parliament regarding green energy. The EAC accuses Cyta of expanding into areas of its own responsibility, with the EAC's trade unions staging a warning strike.

The disagreement focuses on the fact that Cyta, based on the bill, will be able to operate in green energy and RES. The EAC falls under the Ministry of Energy, while Cyta falls under the Ministry of Finance, which complicates the situation.

The issue highlights an intra-governmental conflict, with the government being called upon to clarify its position and prevent a new round of confrontation between the two ministries.
