Cyprus Strengthens Air Defense with Wildcat Helicopters and Martinengo Frigate

British Wildcat helicopters and the Italian frigate Federico Martinengo are reinforcing Cyprus' air defense shield following recent events in Akrotiri.
The two Wildcat helicopters have been deployed to Cyprus for missions to neutralize Iranian drones. They are considered among the best maritime attack helicopters in the world and can carry up to 20 Martlet multi-purpose missiles.
A diplomatic source in Nicosia confirmed the arrival of the Italian frigate Federico Martinengo, which was located southwest of Crete and expected to reach Cyprus within the next 48 hours. The mission includes 160 naval personnel as part of a coordinated effort between Italy, Spain, France, and the Netherlands.
This move indicates increased European mobilization around Cyprus, aimed at strengthening security in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The Federico Martinengo is a Carlo Bergamini-class frigate of the Italian Navy, with recent experience in missions in the Red Sea.
The combined presence of British helicopters and the Italian frigate highlights Cyprus' role in deterrence, due to its geographical location and international situation.
