Enhanced workplace safety and health measures approved

The Parliament plenary session approved a bill to strengthen worker safety and health. The bill, proposed by MPs Andreas Kavkalas, Christos Christofias, and Giorgos Koukoumas on behalf of the AKEL-Left-New Forces parliamentary group, amends the Law on Safety and Health at Work.
The amendment aims to strengthen the existing legal framework regarding employers' obligation to inform, educate, and train their employees on safety and health matters. The proposed regulations stipulate that information, instructions, briefing, education, and supervision must be provided from the first working day and in a language understood by the employee. Furthermore, during the training and education period, the employee receives full pay from the employer.
The bill's rapporteurs emphasized that the aim is to further ensure the prevention, protection, and safety of workers from workplace hazards by strengthening the legislative framework governing education and training.
