Tensions in Turkish Parliament Over Pensions

Tensions rose in the Turkish Parliament during a debate on increasing the minimum pension wage. The government's proposal to increase it to €400 from €250 sparked strong reactions from the opposition, which considers the amount humiliating, as the average cost of living is estimated to be at least €800.
Opposition MPs staged a protest, bringing a box symbolizing a coffin, a tombstone, and placards highlighting the problem of pensioners' living conditions. The placards bore slogans such as: "There is interest, but not for pensioners" and "You left the pensioners to starve and live in misery."
AKP MP Ceyda Bölünmez Çankırı tried to remove the photos from the placards, provoking a reaction from CHP MPs, who continued their protest.
