The anniversary of April 1st, 1955, was celebrated with a doxology at the Apostle Barnabas Cathedral in Nicosia, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides.

Historian and writer Giannis Lambrou, in his ceremonial speech, described the liberation struggle of EOKA as "the culmination of the virtue of Cypriot Hellenism."

Mr. Lambrou expressed his hope that President Christodoulides' efforts would lead to a just solution to the Cyprus problem, freeing Cyprus from the Turkish occupation troops.

Referring to EOKA, he said that Archbishop Makarios III assigned the military conduct of the struggle to Georgios Grivas, while he handled the political issues. He emphasized that Grivas, with the pseudonym Digenis, demonstrated exceptional abilities.

Mr. Lambrou also referred to the coup of July 15, 1974, and the Turkish invasion, emphasizing that despite the efforts, a just solution has not been possible.
