Commissioner Recommends Consultations on Disability Issues

The Commissioner for Administration recommends immediate consultations with disability organizations and the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare on issues concerning persons with disabilities. The recommendation followed a complaint by the Cyprus Paraplegic Organization (O.PA.K.) regarding consultations on new legislation.

The report by Commissioner Maria Stylianou-Lottidi suggests that the Deputy Ministry and other state services should involve other representative organizations, besides KY.S.O.A., directly and promptly in consultations. The Commissioner expects the Deputy Ministry to fully inform O.PA.K. about the draft bill titled «the Law on Social Participation, Inclusion and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities of 2025».

The report was submitted to the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare and communicated to the Director of the Department of Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. The Commissioner also referred to the concluding observations of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities regarding the integration of a human rights-based approach to disability.
