Institutions Committee: Discussion on Voluntary Waiver of Profession for Officials Concluded

The discussion on the proposal for the voluntary waiver of profession by members of parliament and officials during their term of office has been completed in the Institutions Committee. According to Mr. Mousiouttas, the proposal allows each official to voluntarily declare abstention from practicing another profession for purposes of transparency and enhancing the prestige of officials.

The proposal stipulates that within 15 days of assuming their duties, officials must declare whether they wish to waive their profession. If the form is not completed, the response will be sent to the Minister of Finance and Parliament. The Legal Service considered the proposal constitutionally correct, although dissenting views were also expressed.

Mr. Mousiouttas expressed hope that the proposal would be put to a vote in the Plenary, emphasizing the need for consistency between the statements and actions of the parties.
