Macron to Visit Cyprus in 2025: Visit of 'Exceptional Importance'

French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit Cyprus in 2025. The visit is described as being of 'exceptional importance,' as it will be the first bilateral visit by a French President to the Republic of Cyprus.
The announcement was made during a meeting between the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, and the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, who is on an official visit to Cyprus.
During Macron's visit, issues of common interest will be discussed, including strengthening institutional cooperation between Cyprus and France through the upgraded Strategic Agreement. Emphasis is also placed on strengthening bilateral relations in the field of Defense.
President Christodoulides briefed the French Minister on preparations for the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026, with priority given to bringing the EU closer to the Middle East and the Gulf region. Developments in the Cyprus issue were also discussed, with the President expressing his readiness to resume negotiations.
The French Foreign Minister assured of France's support for efforts to resume negotiations on the Cyprus issue, based on UN resolutions and EU principles.
