Erhurman: Turkish Cypriot Consent Needed for Defense Agreements

Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman expressed his opposition to the defense agreements of the Republic of Cyprus, arguing that they are taken without the consent of the Turkish Cypriot community. Erhurman stated that Turkish Cypriots do not wish to pay the price for decisions in which they do not participate.

He referred to the military presence of various countries, such as the United Kingdom, Greece, France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands, in Cyprus, emphasizing that these actions are taken without the will of the Turkish Cypriots. He also mentioned the installation of six F16 fighter jets on the island.

Erhurman questioned whether Turkey took into account the will of the Greek Cypriots before installing Turkish military forces and bases in Cyprus, which, he claimed, violate international law. He spoke of the need to consider the views of both communities before making decisions that affect the island.
