European Approval for Christodoulides' Mutual Defense Assistance Proposal

According to RIK, the proposal of the President of the Republic regarding Article 42-7 of the Treaty on European Union, concerning the mutual defense assistance clause, was accepted during the working dinner of European leaders.

It was agreed to begin preparing a plan with specific parameters. European leaders described Cyprus' initiative to invite regional leaders for dialogue on developments as excellent.

It was noted that the initiative will strengthen cooperation with the region's countries to address the challenges and consequences of the crisis with Iran. The working dinner also discussed the impact on the energy sector from the Middle East crisis and ways to utilize the European Union's tools to address the problem.
