Eurobarometer: Cypriots Highly Trust EU's Defence Capabilities

A new Eurobarometer survey reveals that Cypriot citizens highly trust the European Union's ability to strengthen defence. Specifically, 73% of Cypriots trust the EU in the field of defence and security, significantly higher than the EU average of 52%.
The survey, conducted between January 5 and 12, 2024, also recorded that 76% of Cypriots feel that their country's security is threatened in the current international environment. Furthermore, 52% of Cypriots believe that their personal safety is at risk.
Regarding investments in defence, 26% of Cypriots believe that the EU is not investing enough, while 47% believe it is investing about the right amount. Internally, 26% of Cypriots believe that Cyprus itself is not investing enough in defence.
The survey was conducted on a sample of 513 Cypriot citizens aged 15 and over. The findings highlight the strong support of Cypriot public opinion for the EU's role in strengthening defence and security.
