Eurobarometer: Cypriots Highly Trust EU's Ability to Enhance Defense

A new Eurobarometer survey shows that a majority of Europeans trust the EU's ability to enhance security and defense. In Cyprus, the level of trust is particularly high, reaching 73%, one of the highest in the EU.
The survey, conducted from January 5 to 12, 2026, confirms that defense and security are a key priority for European citizens. In Cyprus, 76% of citizens believe that their country's security is threatened in the current international environment.
Regarding investments in defense and security, 26% of Cypriots believe that the European Union does not invest enough, while 51% believe that Cyprus invests about the right amount.
The survey was conducted on a sample of 513 Cypriot citizens aged 15 and over, with a total of 27,292 citizens participating from all member states of the European Union. The findings highlight the positive attitude of the Cypriot public towards the EU's role in strengthening defense and security.
