Fidias: Cyprus Issue Not a Priority for Agora App Users

MEP Fidias Panayiotou, head of the Direct Democracy movement, spoke to Sigma about the candidate selection process via the Agora app.
Mr. Panayiotou explained that a mobile phone vote is underway to select the movement's 56 candidates. According to him, 212 nominations have been submitted and voting is taking place by district. The results will be announced on Sunday in Limassol.
The MEP stated that approximately 35,000 citizens have downloaded the app and 11,000 have already voted.
Answering questions about the implementation of direct democracy, Mr. Panayiotou spoke of a 'hybrid model,' where elected representatives will make decisions, but citizens' opinions will be sought through voting on critical issues.
Regarding criticism of 'digital marketing,' Panayiotou stressed that the goal is greater citizen involvement in the political process.
Referring to the priorities identified by citizens through the app, Mr. Panayiotou noted that the primary issue is high prices, followed by immigration and education.
Of particular note was his reference to the Cyprus issue, which is not among the top priorities of app users.
He stated that there will be consultation between candidates and citizens before decisions are made on the Cyprus issue.
