FEK: Frozen After Allegations of Election Fraud

The Student Union of the University of Cyprus (FEK) remains inactive following allegations of election fraud in the March 19 elections. Student factions are considering legal action, while the electoral committee proposes lawyer Achilleas Aimilianides as legal advisor to examine the statute.
The "Voice of Students" faction has submitted a proposal to dissolve FEK, addressed to the Nicosia District Officer and the Ministry of Interior. It also seeks to amend the University of Cyprus Law to create a new student representation body.
According to philenews, the electoral committee met with members of the Protovoria faction, while members of Proodeftiki abstained. Vasilis Theodorou, president of Proodeftiki, stated that his faction considers the committee problematic.
An informal meeting of the factions (excluding Protovoria) took place with the aim of joint legal action. The lack of a board of directors in FEK creates problems in the operation of the University of Cyprus. The Agonas faction proposed the creation of a temporary council with representatives from each faction.
"Voice of Students" sent a letter to the Nicosia District Officer requesting an examination of the situation and the activation of Article 24 of the Law on Associations and Foundations for possible dissolution of the association.
Christos Parmakkis, president of Voice of Students, stated that the faction is in contact with parties to amend the law and create a "Student Council" with 25 members to be elected by direct vote.
