Tax Reform: Keravnos Considers Even Withdrawal

The Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, stated that he is even willing to withdraw the tax reform if there are many changes from the Parliament. He said that he does not intend to submit a "truncated" reform.
According to Mr. Keravnos, on September 15, a new meeting will be held with the leaders of the parliamentary parties on the matter. The Minister of Finance stated that extensive consultation has taken place on the reform, with meetings with bodies such as the OEB and KEBE.
Mr. Keravnos also responded to comments by the President of the Fiscal Council, Michalis Persianis, saying that he does not deal with fantasies.
The Minister of Finance emphasized that the reform aims at a fairer distribution of the tax burden, strengthening the middle class and entrepreneurship, as well as maintaining the regime for foreign companies. He also expressed the government's determination to combat tax evasion and tax avoidance.
