Fourlas: Enhanced RescEu Presence Needed in Cyprus

MEP Loukas Fourlas submitted an urgent question to the European Commission regarding the RescEU mechanism's response to the fires in mountainous Limassol.
Mr. Fourlas highlighted the inability to intervene immediately and effectively due to Cyprus' geographical isolation, describing it as a 'second-class member state.' He calls for a permanent and enhanced RescEU base in Cyprus with aerial and ground resources.
In the question, Mr. Fourlas asks the Commission whether it recognizes the inadequacy of RescEU and whether it intends to create a permanent base in Cyprus to cover the island and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Mr. Fourlas emphasized the need for actions and resources for the safety of the EU's island regions.
