Fytiris: Examining Israel's Request for Aikout Transfer

The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, stated that the Republic of Cyprus is considering Israel's request to transfer Simon Aikout, who was sentenced to five years in prison for usurping Greek Cypriot properties.
Mr. Fytiris emphasized Cyprus' obligation to comply with the relevant agreement, but also the particularity of the case due to the usurpation of properties in the occupied territories. He mentioned that Israel recognizes the usurpation and has issued a travel directive for its citizens.
He noted that Aikout's remaining sentence is short, and failure to respond to the request could have repercussions. "We must respond, otherwise we will have repercussions," he said characteristically.
