Gkiokas: ND Must Stop Hiding Regarding Fires

MEP Giannis Gkiokas of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), representing the Eastern Attica constituency, called on the ND government to stop "hiding behind extreme weather events, individual responsibility, and 112 messages" regarding the fires.

Gkiokas argued that the government bears full responsibility for the situation and that the model being implemented is inadequate, as it is limited to suppression and does not emphasize prevention. He also referred to the shortcomings in forestry services and the fire service, as well as the need to maintain the HEDNO (DEDDIE) network.

Regarding the OPEKEPE scandal, Gkiokas denounced the government's handling of the case file and called for the establishment of a Preliminary Investigation Committee.

Finally, he noted that the KKE does not believe in fatalism regarding climate change and that there are means to address extreme weather events, but political will is lacking.
