Gerapetritis: Greece-Cyprus Electricity Interconnection to Proceed Despite Reactions

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis stated that the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection will proceed despite reactions. In an interview with the newspaper «REAL NEWS», he emphasized that the project removes Cyprus' energy isolation.
Mr. Gerapetritis mentioned that Athens and Ankara are seeking a suitable date for the next Supreme Cooperation Council meeting. He expressed satisfaction with the resumption of discussions on the Cyprus issue, following efforts by the Foreign Ministry at the UN, in cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus.
He noted that Athens remains committed to a just and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue, within the framework of the UN Security Council Resolutions. Asked about Turkish reactions to the electricity interconnection project, Mr. Gerapetritis replied that Greece exercises its sovereign rights with national interest and international law in mind.
Regarding the Turkey-Libya memorandum, the Minister stated that it is a thorn in relations with Libya, and any ratification would burden bilateral relations. Finally, he referred to Greece's strategic relationship with the United States.
