Evgenios Hampoullas emphasizes the responsibility of the Church of Cyprus in preserving the historical memory of the Enosis Referendum of 1950.

In his article, Hampoullas refers to the referendum of January 15, 1950, which expressed the will of the people of Cyprus for Union with Greece (Enosis). The referendum was held under the auspices of the Church of Cyprus, with 95% of Greek Cypriots voting in favor of Union.

Hampoullas points out that the Church, as the guardian of national identity, bears a special responsibility in preserving historical memory. He expresses concern about attempts to distort historical truth and emphasizes that national ceremonies must remain acts of remembrance and respect.

The author underlines that preserving the historical memory of the Enosis Referendum and highlighting the unity of Hellenism are a spiritual and moral duty.

The article is based on a letter to the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus.
