Cyprus Takes Over EU Presidency: Aiming for a New Impetus in Europe

The Republic of Cyprus has assumed the Presidency of the European Union for the next six months, with an official opening ceremony on January 7th. President Christodoulides stated that he will work to give new impetus to the European project.
The Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, described the assumption of the Presidency as a top political act and a moment of pride.
The Presidency's logo is inspired by Lefkara lace, a symbol of Cyprus' cultural heritage. It consists of 27 elements, representing the 27 EU member states.
The priorities of the Cypriot Presidency include strengthening European defense and security, promoting EU enlargement, enhancing energy security, and protecting children online.
Approximately 260 meetings will be held in Cyprus, including three summits and other high-level meetings.
Cyprus joined the EU in 2004 and the Eurozone in 2008. It is in the process of joining the Schengen area.
Cyprus' first presidency was in 2012.
