The Republic of Cyprus has assumed the Presidency of the European Union for the next six months, with an official opening ceremony on January 7th. This marks the second time Cyprus has held the Presidency since joining the EU in 2004.

President Nikos Christodoulides stated that Cyprus will work towards a strong and autonomous Europe, capable of protecting its citizens and interests. Additionally, the Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, described the assumption of the Presidency as a top political act and a national mission.

The priorities of the Cypriot Presidency include strengthening European defense and security, promoting EU enlargement, enhancing partnerships with neighboring countries, and addressing the migration issue. Furthermore, Cyprus will focus on affordable housing, protecting minors online, and strengthening the European Health Union.

The Presidency's logo is inspired by Lefkara lace, a symbol of unity and cultural heritage. During the Presidency, approximately 260 meetings will take place in Cyprus, including three summits.

Cyprus joined the EU in 2004 and the Eurozone in 2008. According to the Commission's forecasts, it is expected to have the 3rd highest growth rate in the Eurozone for 2025.
