President Christodoulides' Pension and the Opposition

The issue of President Nikos Christodoulides' pension continues to stir reactions. The President invokes the new legislation to justify his decision to allocate his pension to institutions, while the opposition, especially DISY, is critical.
Nikos Christodoulides announced that he would allocate the monthly pension of €730 to six institutions, citing the new legislation recently passed by Parliament. This, according to him, allows him to do so now, whereas previously he was not entitled to.
DISY, for its part, argues that the President should have waived his pension from the beginning. The government responded to DISY, accusing it of lacking engagement with more important issues.
Examples of other politicians, such as Averof Neofytou and Onoufrios Koullas, who assign or waive their pensions, were mentioned as comparisons. The Presidency announced that the new legislation allows for the Waiver of Pension, but the President chose to support institutions.
DISY is also accused of misperceptions regarding tax reforms and measures against tax evasion.
