The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Konstantinos Kombos, stated that Cyprus supports Albania's prospect of joining the EU, emphasizing that the enlargement towards the Western Balkans is a geopolitical necessity.

In an interview with the Albanian Daily News, ahead of his visit to Albania, Mr. Kombos mentioned that Cyprus-Albania bilateral relations are on an upward trajectory with positive prospects, highlighting the need to strengthen economic cooperation and investments.

Referring to the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that focusing on the wider Middle East region will be a priority.

Regarding the Cyprus issue, Mr. Kombos reiterated the Government's commitment to the liberation and reunification of Cyprus in a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation, in accordance with UN resolutions. He stressed that the resumption of negotiations remains a priority for ending the occupation and division.

For the Middle East, Mr. Kombos underscored Cyprus' active involvement in dialogue with regional actors, noting that de-escalation and diplomatic efforts are the only way forward.
