C. Mavrides: 'Undeclared war by Turkey against Cyprus and Greece'

MEP Costas Mavrides (DIKO – S&D) in his article refers to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 and the ongoing challenges from Turkey.
Mr. Mavrides points out that Turkey used the 1974 ceasefire to reinforce its forces and occupy more areas. He also mentions that Turkish school curricula teach that half of the Aegean is Turkish and that Cyprus is Turkish.
According to the MEP, Turkey seeks a 'hot episode' with Greece, while the policy of 'dialogue or war' leads to concessions. He emphasizes that the readiness of the Greek armed forces deters Turkish aggression and proposes a national deterrence front from Thrace to Cyprus.
Mr. Mavrides concludes that a miserable policy leads to shrinkage, while society demands preparation and deterrent power.
