Occupied Territories: Outcry over sermon on half inheritance for women

A sermon by the Turkish Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), which was also read in mosques in the occupied territories, has sparked strong reactions. The sermon urges women to accept half the inheritance compared to men.
According to the Turkish Cypriot website Gıynık, the text was read on August 15 in the occupied territories of Cyprus, causing reactions similar to those in Turkey.
The sermon is criticized for promoting the view that women should receive half the inheritance, with controversial phrases such as "daughters not agreeing with the right defined by Allah constitutes a violation of the right of another."
The Izmir Bar Association called the sermon a "flagrant violation of the principle of equality."
